Scott's Tour of Magical Morocco
Just a few hours flight from the UK, Morocco is at the crossroads of Europe and Africa. Morocco is a country rich in contrasts - from the historical imperial cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Fez and Marrakech to the geographic extremes of the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert and the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. Discover the intensity of bustling souks and maze-like medinas, alongside the vastness of the pre-Sahara and remote Berber mountain villages. A melting pot of Berber, Arab, African and European cultures, it’s hard to believe that Morocco is within such easy reach of Europe.
Here’s what Scott, Llama Travel Product Manager, saw during his time in Morocco - all the photos in this blog are his own.
Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca.
The ruins of Volubilis, a Berber-Roman city founded in the 3rd century BC.
A typical blue and white street inside Rabat's Kasbah of the Udayas.
Chouara Tannery in Fez, the largest and one of the oldest in the city.
Camel riding on the desert dunes of Erg Chebbi, on the edge of the Sahara.
The striking orange-hued sunset.
Sleeping under the stars in a Berber tent is the highlight of the desert experience.
The picturesque oasis of Skoura.
Aït Benhaddou is a historic ksar (fortified village) between the Sahara desert and Marrakech. It is considered a great example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The view of the journey from Skoura to Marrakech across the Atlas Mountains.
Kutubiyya Mosque in Marrakech.
An animated merchant inside Marrakech's colourful souks.
The 19th century Bahia Palace, one of Marrakech's most beautiful sights.
Despite being just over a 3-hour flight from London, a trip to Morocco is like stepping into a different world. One of the highlights of my trip to Morocco was exploring the labyrinth like streets of the souks in both Marrakesh and Fes, where it felt like I had journeyed hundreds of years back in time.
We are delighted to announce that our Morocco holidays are now online, with amazing discounts and flexible booking conditions. Flights from the UK, accommodation, transfers and excursions are included in the price.
