Visiting Peru & Easter Island
One of our customers, Mr Kilner, visited Peru and Easter Island as part of a spectacular 19-night South American adventure with Llama Travel. Have a scroll through his photos to see some of the spectacular sights he explored including Cusco, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca and the mysterious volcanic island in the Pacific, almost 2,200 miles off the coast of Chile.
You'll find llamas and alpacas all over Peru and the Andes Mountains. They have formed an important part of local culture and folklore for thousands of years, serving their communities as pack animals to transport goods across the mountains.
Sacsayhuaman was the site of an infamous battle between the Incas and Conquistadors, strategically located at the top of a hill with glorious views overlooking the city of Cusco.
The classic Inca Trail is a four-day trek crossing high mountain passes to reach the final destination, Machu Picchu. Click here for a day-by-day account of the trek.
On the final day of the trek, you set off before dawn for the walk of around 1.5 hours to the Intipunku (sun gate), where you get your first glimpse of Machu Picchu. You then have a guided tour of the ruins, and can opt to stay for a night in the town for further exploration the next day.
At over 3,800 metres above sea level, Lake Titicaca is famous for being the highest navigable lake in the world. The Uros Islands, where people live on floating bundles of reeds, provide an excellent insight into the traditional way of life on the lake, as well as Taquile and Amantaní, where traditional crafts still dominate.
Despite being the most remote inhabited island in the world, Easter Island is home to a culture which created 800 giant stone Moai statues, each weighing up to 86 tonnes. There are also several beautiful beaches on the island.
Mr Kilner added Easter Island as an extension to his Peru holiday. Our flexible group tours mean that you get to pick and choose the places you want to visit, without being limited by a rigid itinerary. Using our various extensions, you can combine multiple destinations and countries. Unlike a traditional tailor-made holiday though, you pay group tour prices.
If you don't see a particular combination listed on our website, call us and we will almost certainly be able to put it together for you. Click here to browse all our Latin America holidays.
