Peru's Amazon Jungle Lodges: Which is Best?
The vast Peruvian Amazon covers over half of Peru and offers spectacular biodiversity, with incredible vegetation, birdlife and wildlife. Puerto Maldonado is a small jungle town in Southern Peru, close to the Brazilian and Bolivian borders. Located on the Madre de Dios and Tambopata Rivers, the nearby jungle lodges we work with offer excellent opportunities to explore the surrounding scenery. Staying in a jungle lodge allows you to experience the Amazon in relative comfort, while guides take you on excursions to explore during the day.
Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion
Our standard lodge in the Amazon, the Hacienda Concepcion is beautifully set on a small lagoon within 819 hectares of rainforest, a 25-minute canoe ride from Puerto Maldonado. Jungle excursions from this lodge include nature trails through terra firma forest, dugout canoe rides down oxbow lakes, visits to clay licks and sky walks across the 300-metre high canopy walkways.
Why stay here?
This lodge boasts an exotic jungle setting, with simple but comfortable accommodation with hot water and a varied selection of jungle excursions.
Lodge facilities
- Your stay is on a full board basis. In the main thatched house, there is a bar/lounge area which offers snacks and pisco drinks. There is also a dining area which serves food inspired by the tropical flavours of the Amazon.
- Expert English-speaking naturalist guides are present on site and provide the guided tours, which include rainforest trails, boat cruises and canopy walks.
- The lodge offers a 24-hour front desk, hot water, laundry services, wake-up calls, binocular rental and luggage storage.
- WiFi is not available due to the secluded nature of the lodge.
The room
The lodge comprises 15 rooms decorated in the rich indigenous Ese-Eja style. Guestrooms are broken down into eight rooms and seven cabañas. All rooms have one reading light per bed, an electrical outlet, a ceiling fan and en-suite bathrooms with hot water. The more spacious cabañas also have a comfortable and relaxing seating area with a hammock, and are available for a supplement.

The lodge is the most comfortable in the area, and you are able to choose from a list of jungle excursions including a visit to the 300-metre canopy walkway and a visit to Lake Sandoval, a beautiful oxbow lake inhabited by a range of wildlife.
