The Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge is located at 2,200 metres high in the Ecuadorian cloud forest, offering wonderful views as well as great trails through the forest.
Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge Location
Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge is located in the Tandayapa Valley, northwest of Quito, Ecuador’s capital. The Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve is spread across 2,000 acres of conservation land in a stunning position on the slopes of the Ecuadorian Andes.
How to get to Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge
The drive from Quito to Bellavista is around two hours, and the road from Quito to the Mindo area is spectacular, dropping from the Andes towards the lush Ecuadorian cloud forest. The last part of the drive to Bellavista is on a bumpy unmade road.
Birdwatching at Bellavista
As the Bellavista area is on the slopes of a mountain, the flora and fauna vary depending on the altitude you are at. The cloud forest here is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with 330 species of birds in the Tandayapa Valley, where Bellavista is located. There are 16 varieties of hummingbirds close to the lodge itself. Other bird species include the Plate-billed Mountain Toucan, Tanager Finch, Andean Cock of the Rock, Violet tailed Sylph, Toucan Barbet, Umbrella Bird and three types of Antipitta.

Bellavista Lodge Accommodation
The Bellavista Lodge is rustic and simple, but has everything you need including electricity and hot showers. The lodge offers stunning views across the cloud forest, with feeders around the grounds attracting many species of hummingbird. All meals are included in the lodge restaurant, which has panoramic windows.
Bellavista Lodge Activities
One guided excursion is included on each day, where a naturalist guide will take you on nature trails and teach you about the flora and fauna in the Bellavista area. There are 10 kilometres of trails near the lodge, ranging from the relatively easy to the more adventurous. Many of the trails are self-guided, which you are able to explore during your free time. You can also visit one of the four waterfalls in the area.
