Yaxha is a Maya site situated in the northern Guatemalan state of Peten. It is located close to the border with Belize and is about 30km from the larger Maya site of Tikal.
The site of Yaxha has over 500 structures, including 40 Stelae, 13 altars, 9 pyramids. The site was an important civic and ceremonial site during the Maya Classic period. Yaxha is set on a hill overlooking 2 large lakes, Laguna Yaxha and Laguna Sacnab. One of the highlights of Yaxha is Temple 216, as you are able to climb to the top of this pyramid. From the top of the temple you are rewarded with stunning views across the surrounding jungle and also of the two nearby lagoons.
