Kasane (Chobe region)

Kasane is a small town sandwiched between the border of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia and Botswana, forming the gateway to Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls. Spread out along the banks of the Chobe River, the town mainly comprises guesthouses and campsites, often with beautiful views of the river and its wildlife. Kasane has small shopping centres and craft shops, although its main attraction is undoubtedly Chobe, which is situated 10 kilometres from the town. As there are no boundary fences, game such as elephant and hippo can be spotted around the hotels. 

Famous for its spectrum of wildlife, Chobe National Park is spread over 11,700 square kilometres in the north of Botswana, stretching down to the fringes of the Okavango Delta. The distinctive landscapes range from swamps and floodplains to woodlands and the Chobe River which forms the northern boundary. The park was established in 1968 and supports a huge concentration of wildlife including some of the world’s largest herds of elephant and over 460 bird species.  To reach Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, the drive from Chobe to the border takes around two hours, on a well-serviced tarmac road.
